The rabbis issued a decree that non Jews (idol worshippers) would be considered like a zav or zava and their saliva and urine would be impure. Did this also apply to menstrual blood from a woman? And if so, to what extent – only if liquidy or also dry? There is a debate between Beit Shammai and Beit Hillel in this regard and according to Rabbi Yehuda in mesechet Eduyot, it is one of the places where Beit Shammai is more lenient than Beit Hillel. The gemara explains the reasoning behind their opinions. A female leper – her saliva adn urine are impure. What about pure blood from after childbirth – is it also impure like her saliva and urine? Also a debate between Beit Shammai and Beit Hillel and the gemara explains their reasoning.

I was moved to tears by the Hadran Siyyum HaShas. I have learned Torah all my life, but never connected to learning Gemara on a regular basis until then. Seeing the sheer joy Talmud Torah at the siyyum, I felt compelled to be part of it, and I haven’t missed a day!

I started with Ze Kollel in Berlin, directed by Jeremy Borowitz for Hillel Deutschland. We read Masechet Megillah chapter 4 and each participant wrote his commentary on a Sugia that particularly impressed him. I wrote six poems about different Sugiot! I saw an elderly man at the shul kiddush in early March 2020, celebrating the siyyum of masechet brachot which he had been learning with a young yeshiva student. I thought, if he can do it, I can do it! I began to learn masechet Shabbat the next day, Making up masechet brachot myself, which I had missed.
